A wide, shallow vessel turned from green beech, then left to dry at its own pace — allowing the rim to shift, subtly and honestly, into a gentle wave. The form is simple, useful, and open. But around the outer wall runs a band of hand-carved texture — ripples that recall wind skimming the surface of rock pools, or the tide’s soft patterns left in sand.

The surface is painted in a vivid coastal blue using traditional milk paint, and finished with food-safe oil and Cornish beeswax. The interior is smooth and inviting; the exterior holds light and shadow in its carved lines, like water holding memory.

The name Askell an Awel means “the wing of the wind” in Cornish — a phrase that speaks to movement, rhythm, and unseen forces that leave their mark over time.

This bowl is a study in balance: between function and feeling, stillness and movement, surface and depth. Made slowly, with tools that follow the shape of the hand, and with space for the wood to speak for itself.

Each piece is unique — shaped not just by carving, but by patience.
