A deep-rimmed bowl carved from beech grown on the Lanhydrock Estate — a quiet woodland on the edge of Bodmin Moor, where tree roots run deep through history and damp earth.

Around the outer wall, hand-carved arches rise like standing stones — weathered, weighty, and watchful. Inspired by ancient forms found in the Cornish landscape, they carry the quiet symbolism of guardianship: forms that endure, standing sentry over what matters.

Coloured in a deep sea green using traditional milk paint, the surface echoes lichen-covered granite and the shaded pools of moorland rivers. Finished with food-safe oils to bring out the natural grain and offer lasting protection.

Each bowl is made slowly — turned by hand while the wood is green, carved in stages, then left to rest. The process is led as much by feel as by form, letting the character of the tree shape the rhythm of the piece.

A show piece for the table, shelf, or sideboard. Not loud, but certain — a vessel with presence and place.

Crafted by Dominic Pearce — maker of this year’s President’s Awards for the Royal Cornwall Show, and winner of the 2025 Peer Award at Bovey Craft Festival.
