This forty centimetre platter carries a rim carved with the shifting pattern of sea surface on a day when the water is restless but holds its line. The marks follow the small ridges and lifted textures that form when wind brushes the ocean without breaking it, giving the rim a moving, shimmering feel. Each carving catches light differently, echoing the way the sea changes from moment to moment.
The blue green finish settles into the grooves and rises along the crests, creating a sense of depth across the wide circle of the piece. Within the carved band, the beech heartwood sits warm and steady, its natural tones offering a grounded centre to the surrounding movement.
The scale of the platter gives the pattern room to open out, more like a horizon than a rim. The piece holds a clear link to Cornwall’s coastline and the play of wind across open water, carrying the calm and tension of the sea when conditions shift but never fully break.
