Turned from beech that I sourced in Cornwall following Storm Goretti.

Morrep was shaped while the timber was still green, with a smooth exterior and a gently carved interior. As the beech dried, it moved away from the circle of the lathe, forming a broad oval with a rim that rises and falls like the changing line of the Cornish coast.

This movement releases tensions created throughout the tree’s lifetime. The ground on which it stood, its exposure to wind and weather, and the conditions that shaped its growth all remain present in the final form.

A natural opening in the rim is secured with a visible copper mend. The repair is left exposed as part of the bowl’s story and as a connection to the copper lodes running through Cornwall’s landscape.

The exterior is coloured with non-toxic blue-green milk paint, contrasting with the warm beech and carved marks within. Finished with cold-pressed raw linseed oil.
